One of my favorite facts to tell guests at the lodge where I was working in South Africa was that the Stripe-bellied Sand Snake specializes on hunting skinks. You see, skinks move fast, but stop frequently to check behind them if there is any predators following it. The Stripe-bellied Sand Snake has realised this and now moves in a similar way. Even when it isn't hunting, it will move forward quickly, but stop regularly. This helps a lot when it hunts skinks. The snake is faster than the skink, so as they both move, the snake makes up ground. When the skink stops to look behind it, the snake stops too and blends in perfectly with its surroundings. Eventually the snake gets close enough to strike and enjoy its well deserved meal.

I love spending time watching wild animals and nature always find a way to teach us that not everything is black and white. Sometimes we need to change our views to see a situation in color.
