Middle Distance
Growing up I loved watching documentaries. Almost all of them mentioned that the largest wild lions in the entire world can be found in Botswana's Okavango Delta. Whilst guiding in South Africa though, I struggled to image how the delta could have larger lions than we had. So, when an opportunity to visit the Okavango Delta presented itself, I couldn't say no. This image shows a lioness relaxing in the tall grass. What it doesn't show is how large she is. This lioness was larger than any South African male lion I had ever seen! The myths are true. I wasn't fortunate enough to find a male lion in the delta, but I can confirm that the females are much larger than any females in South Africa.
I love spending time watching wild animals and nature always find a way to teach us that not everything is black and white. Sometimes we need to change our views to see a situation in color.
