Endangered Elegance

At the time of this image there were less than 100 individuals of this species left on earth. The Black Stilt is one of New Zealand's most endangered birds and even though the numbers are increasing, they still need to be bred in captivity before being released into the wild. Because they were bred in captivity, these birds are very use to people. So, if you manage to find one, they will get really close to you. This was one of 5 individuals that came to greet me during my morning excursion. Truly magnificent birds in a breathtaking environment.

Wild birds are truly amazing! I love spending time with them and nature always find a way to teach us that not everything is black and white. Sometimes we need to change our views to see a situation in color.
